One of the incredible aspects of this campaign has been the way in which supporters across the country have found ways to get involved not just nationally, but in their own local communities as well. Supporters have helped register voters, organize neighborhoods, and re-engage people in the political process. Many of these efforts will have a lasting effect, long after this campaign for the presidency has ended.
Think MTV recently profiled a grassroots group called Obama Works that is transforming online activity into offline community projects:
Inspired by an article written by two students and Obama volunteers at Yale, a few Philadelphians met online and created a campaign called "Obama Works." The idea, which manifested in the first "Obama Philly Sweep" on a recent Saturday, is that the grassroots momentum surrounding Obama's candidacy can be turned into local public service projects that can make a difference in communities RIGHT NOW. It's a different way of making politics work for people, and it's spreading:
